THE McCORMICK LIONS Club has been proudly serving our community since November of 1928 and is part of Lions Clubs International, the world's largest service organization with over 1.4 million members serving in 212 countries around the world. We are a group of civic-minded men and women who have come together giving time, energy, and resources in service to others. Last year, despite Covid-19 and the dreadful effects on all of us, our Lions Club was able to implement social distancing guidelines and still contribute in a meaningful way to our community.

The club's achievements include helping local families with food and gifts for Christmas, and leading efforts to raise money for McCormick County Sheriff equipment upgrades. With a focus on vision services over the past 20 years, the club has provided over $50,000 worth of eye exams and eyeglasses to those members of our community who qualify. Each year the Lions Club also provides funding for scholarships for students at McCormick High School.

Between July and December last year, the McCormick Lions Club donated almost $9,000 to various organizations including Backpack Ministry, Burton Foundation, First Steps, Helping Hands Food Pantry, Cornerstone, The American School for the Deaf and Blind in Greenville, and the Lions Clubs International Foundation Disaster Relief Fund. These efforts would not be possible without help from all our local residents and area businesses. WE THANK YOU!

Almost all donations made to the Lions Club stay local ensuring we are supporting real community needs. In addition, we support the Lions Club International Foundation which has donated over $1.2 Billion since 1960, to millions of people throughout the world. McCormick Lions Club main fundraiser is the Annual Golf Classic scheduled for May 24th this year - Save the Date! Broom sales are a trademark of our Lions Club, consistently providing funds throughout the club’s 92-year history. Everyone needs a new broom from time to time, so consider purchasing a Lions Club broom next time you are in need. Brooms can be purchased year-round at the Red Rooster on Main and during community events at the Lions Club booth. In November, the club holds its annual Christmas Collection held on the Food Lion parking lot. In November of 2020 we collected a whopping $2,400 which went to families in need who attend the reading programs provided by McCormick First Steps. One hundred per cent of all monies raised goes to where there is a need, and no costs are taken out for administration. Thank you to Food Lion for allowing us to collect.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to helping our community this past year. Remember to save the date (May 24th) for the upcoming Lions Golf Classic. If being part of this wonderful group of people is of interest, or you would like to join the Lions, please contact Lions President Rob Clancy (517-588-9592) or any other Lions Club member for more information. Our motto is, WE SERVE.
