THE HOME OF Harold and Katie Clum, at 213 Holly Lane, has been selected by The McCormick Garden Club as the July Garden of the Month. In an unusual design choice there are no flower beds around the front porch, color and texture are provided by exquisitely designed containers. As you stroll through the Clum’s landscape it is almost impossible to believe that it is only 2 years old. After solving an initial drainage issue the Clums have installed hundreds of plants. Their plant selection reflects a variety of colors, textures and forms. They have alternated Green Giant Arborvitae with Little Gem Magnolias and Ebony Flame Crape Myrtle are alternately paired with Golden Thread Mop Cypress, an arrangement that compliments both species. As you approach the back yard and look through the azaleas and dogwoods to the fifteenth hole of Tara you are reminded of another famous golf hole. Katie admitted that she had visions of “Little Augusta” when she made her plant selections for that part of the yard. As part of the on going battle that all of us wage against deer damage Harold and Katie have planted a selection of herbs, alliums and ornamental garlic.
