The Tennis/Pickleball Annual Dinner-Dance on January 26 will be long remembered. The excitement began the minute attendees entered the delightfully decorated McCormick Room all decked out in an Italian theme: Tennis in Tuscany and Pickleball in Pisa! Some folks’ excitement began even sooner when they detoured through the Silent Auction Sweets room while making their way down the hall from the front door. These folks were greeted with a plethora of cakes, pies, cookies, and brownies. The bidding was brisk and a big success. Later in the McCormick Room, Chef John’s pasta bar and dessert bar were enthusiastically enjoyed as 120 guests visited around their tables. Dancing continued beyond the time set to close down because everyone was having a great time with the Carolina Rockers providing the music. Mike Lusby enjoyed heading up a 50/50 raffle which was quite the money maker when both winners donated their windfall to the Tennis/Pickleball Fund. Suzie Kaeding, chair of the Tennis/Pickleball Committee, thanked Marsha Lusby for heading up the annual affair, Linda Baker and her “worker bees” for the decorations, and all the many contributors to the bake sale/auction. Monies raised at the Tennis/Pickleball Dinner-Dance will be used to enhance the Tennis/Pickleball Complex behind the Recreation Center. “The most recent purchases have been ball tubes, footbaths, clay court line brush, flowers for the area at the complex sign, and supplies to roll up windscreens for the winter months,” said Marsha Lusby, Treasurer. “We are always pleased when needs not covered in the Recreation Center budget become evident and we can satisfy those needs with money raised in the community.” Villagers who are tennis and pickleball players as well as friends and supporters of the sports now have an investment in the growing program.
