MEMBERS OF THE Thurmond Lake squadron of America’s Boating Club participated in the McCormick Christmas Parade on December 15, the rescheduled date after the parade was rained out on December 1. Their float featured a 17’ ski boat named “Taco,” and a dozen or more squadron members walked along the parade route and gave out candy.
On Wednesday, December 19, three dozen squadron members celebrated Christmas at a “drop-in” in the Carolina Room at the Tara Clubhouse. Chef John Creswell and his staff exceeded everyone’s expectations with delicious hot and cold Hors d’oeuvres and wine.
Sandy Gresham and her Committee built a gingerbread house and entered it in the Hickory Knob State Park’s first annual gingerbread house competition. “Lake Holidays at Hickory Knob” was the title of the squadron’s entry and featured a cabin by the lake with a boat ramp, water and a boat with a bear in it. This entry did not place this year, but it exceeded the 85% edible requirement; and the Committee learned a lot about making gingerbread houses and will be ready for next year’s competition.
