JUST UNDER 200 SLV residents were treated to a very informative seminar about fishing Lake Thurmond. Four presenters gave a great overview of fishing for the three most popular fish in the lake. They shared ideas ranging from sport fishing to fishing for food to just taking the grand kids out for a day of fun fishing.
Topics covered included bass fishing with Mike Brown, crappie fishing with Bill McDonald, striper fishing with Bob Vose and fishing with artificial bait—Zman—with Ken McGhie. Each fisherman gave an excellent presentation with examples of equipment, techniques, bait, times to fish and even where to fish. The presenters shared many years of experience and knowledge about their subject matter. Attendees were shown all types of fishing gear and even got to see a 16 foot fishing rod. Reels ran the gamete from $19.95 to over $250.00, from spin cast to bait casting. Rods were about the same starting at about $20.00 to approaching $200.00. However, presenters were quick to point out that the fish do not know the difference and anyone can have a lot of fun on the lake with an inexpensive $30 to $40 combo from Walmart.
Feedback indicated 99.9% of attendees found the seminar very helpful and informative with either a 4 or 5 rating on a 1 to 5 scale. We would like to thank the presenters for their hard work and willingness to share their knowledge and to the residents of SLV for their support.
