THE MEMBERS AND guests of the SLV Wine Club had their fall gathering recently at the River Grille.
On September 8, the SLV Wine Club hosted a wine tasting with the theme of “Wine, Roses & Chocolates.” Attendees sampled four white wines, four red wines, and at the end of the evening, a Ruby Port paired with two different chocolates. All the ladies that attended were offered a fresh red rose as they left.
When the wine club has a tasting and not a sit-down dinner, the food provided is heavy hors d’oeuvres. Since there are not assigned seats at a tasting, the attendees are encouraged to mingle with other guests as they walk around sampling the wines and food. The wines are selected to pair with the food, which at this tasting, included carved beef tenderloin, caprese skewers of grape tomatoes & fresh mozzarella with a balsamic glaze, stuffed mushrooms, bacon wrapped dates, cheese and fruit. Many people commented on how well the wine complimented the food, adding to their enjoyment.
The SLV Wine Club has been a fixture of the social life at Savannah Lakes for over twenty years. We have four gatherings each year spaced three months apart. A committee is in charge of each event; and they decide on the theme of the event, select the wines and food, and then meet with the Wine Club board for approval.
Membership dues in the SLV Wine Club are only $20 per year, and guarantees you an invitation to all the events. Because so many Villagers travel for extended periods, if an event is not filled by members, then attendance is opened to all on a first come, first served basis. The December event has always been the most popular one, and rarely opened to non-members, as reservations fill up fast by the membership. Anyone interested in attending is strongly encouraged to join the Wine Club. This year’s December event is “Winter in Provence” on December 1 and will be an evening of fine dining with a welcoming wine and then a four-course meal with a different wine for each course.
So many people have moved into the Village recently that they may not have heard of the Wine Club, or didn’t know how to join.
